About the project

The MHAOD Nursing Clinical Supervision Implementation Project is a statewide initiative to support interested MHAOD services to implement sustainable clinical supervision programs for MHAOD nurses.

The 2-year project is designed to strengthen access to, and implementation of, clinical supervision for MHAOD nurses across Queensland by providing leadership, expert advice and practical implementation support.

What the project will provide

The project team will provide consultation and advice to support services to navigate barriers and enablers to nursing clinical supervision implementation, with the goal of increasing MHAOD nursing engagement in clinical supervision.

This includes support with clinical supervision program leadership, governance, marketing, communication and resource allocation.

Why this project matters

There are known benefits of clinical supervision as an important professional development activity. It has been shown to improve staff wellbeing and workforce retention, as well as consumer and organisational outcomes.

While clinical supervision resources already exist, implementation of clinical supervision programs for nurses is not yet well established.

This project is designed to address challenges to implementation and support greater engagement of MHAOD nurses in clinical supervision.

What the project will do

The project will:

  • provide statewide leadership and coordination for implementation across participating sites
  • engage MHAOD leadership and support planning across sites to promote consistency and alignment
  • support delivery of implementation activities including training across services
  • develop an evaluated implementation model that may be used by other nursing specialties.
